About Rainy Day
Two Brothers, One Number, One Accountable Team
Rainy Day started in 1999, built by a roofer with a home inspector’s eye — and that background still runs the company: the problem you can see is almost never the whole problem. Here’s who we are.
Who We Are
Two Brothers Who Got Tired of Homeowners Getting Bounced Around
Rainy Day started in 1999. Back then, Josh Hopewell was a roofer and home inspector — roofing was the family trade, learned growing up on job sites in his dad’s company here in North Texas. Home inspection taught him the one thing that still runs this company: the leak you can see is almost never the whole problem.
For years, Josh would climb into an attic on a roof job and find water damage nobody had dealt with — or mold quietly spreading behind a wall. His brother John was running a carpet cleaning and water restoration business at the time, and had the mirror-image experience: he’d show up to dry out a water loss and find the failed roof that caused it. Two halves of the same problem, solved by two separate companies, for the same customers.
So in 2013, they merged. Roofing, water damage, and the repairs in between — under one name and one number. In 2017, we added a Texas mold-remediation license (MRC1508), because in this climate water leads to mold more often than not, and we wanted to finish the job correctly instead of handing anyone off halfway through.
None of it was handed to us. Rainy Day was built the slow way — Josh ran it out of the house, then a converted garage, then a rented space and eventually his own building in Allen. After the merger, we worked out of McKinney for several years, and in 2018 we bought the building in Anna where we’re headquartered today. Twenty-seven years, five moves, and every one of them a step earned.
27 Years, Thousands of Homes, One Accountable Team
We’ve been doing this in North Texas since 1999 — 27 years. In a typical year we inspect 500 to 600 properties, and over that time we’ve repaired thousands. Our Google reviews average about 4.7 stars across both of our profiles, and the Better Business Bureau gives us an A+ rating. We mention the numbers only because “trusted local company” is easy to say and hard to prove — this is the proof.
We run a tight, in-house team: our own water and mold technicians and a field supervisor, with John and Josh still involved in the work. When a job calls for more — a full roof replacement, reconstruction, specialty trades — we bring in the vetted crews and additional techs we’ve worked with for years. You get a small company’s accountability with a big company’s reach.
A Tornado, a Dog Walk, and a Whole Street
In 2017, a tornado came through the Liberty subdivision in Melissa, where Josh lived at the time. It didn’t take down houses, but it chewed up roofs the length of his street. Josh took the dog out for a walk to see the damage — and ended up doing temporary repairs for one neighbor, then the next, then the next, right down the block. In the weeks after, Rainy Day did water-damage restoration in several of those homes and replaced roofs on a number of them.
We tell that story not because it was unusual, but because it’s exactly how this company is supposed to work: the roof and the water are one problem, the people fixing it are your actual neighbors, and when something goes wrong on your street, we’re already on it. That’s the difference between a national franchise dispatching a crew and a family company that lives here.
What We Do
Restoration, Roofing, and Repair Under One Team
Water damage restoration, mold remediation, roof repair and roof replacement, crawl space moisture control, fire and smoke recovery, gutters, and the reconstruction that puts everything back together afterward — first sign of trouble through the final repair, one call.
We’re a licensed Texas mold-remediation contractor (MRC1508), an IICRC-certified firm, A+ rated with the BBB, and we’ve been doing this in North Texas since 1999.

Our Approach
What We Actually Believe About Restoration
Most of this industry runs on speed and volume. We’ve built Rainy Day around a few opinions that are a little out of step with that:
Find the source before you fix the symptom. Anyone can cut out wet drywall. If you don’t find where the water came from, you’ll be back in three months. We spend the time up front — moisture meters, thermal imaging, tracing the path — so the repair actually holds.
Save what can be saved — remove the rest. A lot of companies rush to tear everything out, because demo is billable. We dry the materials that are salvageable first, and remove only what truly can’t be saved. It’s usually less invasive, and less expensive for you.
Document like your claim depends on it — because it does. Photo logs, moisture maps, psychrometric readings, and signed scopes aren’t busywork. They’re the difference between a claim that gets paid in full and one that gets fought. We start that file on the first visit.
One accountable team beats four subcontractors pointing at each other. When roofing, water, mold, and reconstruction all sit under one roof, nothing falls through the cracks and there’s nobody to blame. If something’s wrong, you call us.
Family-Owned, in the Most Literal Sense
Between them, Josh and John are raising nine kids — Josh has six, two of them adopted, and John has three. Both brothers grew up right here — they went to Lovejoy Elementary in Lucas and both graduated from Allen High School — and our crews are local, the same people you’ll see on your property.
It’s a family company in the most literal sense, and it changes how we work: the people who do the job are the ones who stand behind it after it closes.
It’s also why we put a real part of our year back into the community — food drives, the Salvation Army, and families raising kids with special needs. We’ve been on that side of things too.
You Won’t Go Through This Alone
Damage to your home is stressful enough without being handed between contractors. Call us once, and we’ll take it from the first emergency step through the final repair — and we’ll tell you the truth at every stage, even when it’s not the answer that makes us the most money.
